'Halcyon' is one of the best and most popular of the blue hosta cultivars. An erect plant to 14" tall featuring a mound of spear-shaped, heavily-textured, blue-green leaves and spikes of bell-shaped, pale lilac-blue flowers. Retains its blue leaf color longer than most other blue hostas. A dependable and versatile perennial requiring little care. Grown primarily for its beautiful foliage which provides color, contrast and texture to the landscape. Awarded the American Hosta Society Distinguished Merit Hosta award (1987). Remember that deer love hostas, so if you have a herd of deer that visits on a regular basis, it is best not to tempt them with hostas. They make beautiful container plants for a shady patio, porch, etc.or line a wooded path with hostas, ferns, coral bells, etc for a natural woodland look.
Prepare the planting area well with organic matter. A few hours of morning sun is fine but avoid hot, intense afternoon sun, especially in the south. (This is a general rule for all hostas)
